CUPID'S HOT DOGS IN NORTHRIDGE

2010 -- THE YEAR OF VALLEY ADVENTURES - NORTHRIDGE100
Cupid's Hot Dog Stand Northridge - Photo for the Archives of The Museum of the San Fernando Valley by Art Jacobs - 2010 (click on images to enlarge)\Art Jacobs shares this about Cupid’s Hot Dogs in Northridge
"In 1964, the community of Northridge tasted their first Cupid’s Hot Dogs. Forty five years later folks come from far and near to taste their favorite dog.
Damon Standifer and Kim Curriston, better known as the “A” Team to regulars at Cupids are familiar faces to this joint. Damon has worked at the Lindley Avenue location for twenty five years and Kim, who grew up in Mission Hills has worked here for thirty one years.

If you haven’t tried a Cupids Hot Dog stop by the Northridge location, you won’t regret it."

Jerry's note: The owners of Cupid's knew what they were doing when they put up this classic hot dog stand just across Nordoff from California State University Northridge. Starving students, and those of us who know where every Cupid's stand is in the Valley, make up a steady stream of customers.

I was born in Hollywood Queen of Angeles in August 1961. We moved to Northridge in '62 on Yolanda Ave just south of Lassen St. All the kids in our neighborhood would ride our bikes to Cupids during summer after playing baseball at Northridge Park, from 1970-73. Getting into orange fights across the street from Cupids on Nordoff at the orange grooves at the college, which was called the San Fernando Valley College at the time.We later would skateboard to Cupids through Jr High and drove there often for decades after. I still live here in Northridge now for 62 years. I learned that Cupids closes tonight on New Years Eve. I can safely say that Cupids in Northridge was a beloved establishment for all ages for several decades. I heard that Cupids is closing it doors tonight this New Years Eve. It kind feels like a childhood friend whose family moves away to live their lives elsewhere. I will miss Cupids. Tonight I will say my goodbyes and in a New Years Day spirit smile with gratitude for the sweet memories Cupids gave me and so many others. You'll be missed, thanks and God Bless.
